Scan / Aquire Problem still solved by Corel?

Hello, I Found Some Discussions from a Year ago like http://community.coreldraw.com/forums/t/32038.aspx or http://community.coreldraw.com/forums/t/32305.aspx because scanning does not work with Corel Draw X6 64Bit.

The solution to buy a Makro ist the one way, the other way i understood that Corel wanted to Fix the Problems in the second half of 2012. (in the 6.1 Service Pack 1 description I read something of Scan Problems solved?!)

Now i bought a X6.1 version and has updated it to the recent stand 6.2.0.998 incunded Hotfix1.

unfortunately I still cannot scan with Corel Draw.

I am using Vuescan 64Bit and in any other Program (Also 64Bit Programs) Vuescan works / can be opened correctly.

Will there be any way in the future to use the Scanner directly out of Corel draw Without buying a additional Makro?

Thank you for yur Help and response

Please explain Web resolution for me!

This ought to be simple, but it's not for me....

I'm a pastor. Among the ways I am currently using CDX7 is to create .png image files of selected church newsletter columns I've published during my 29 years at my current church, images that I post to an archive on our church website, each headed by a fresh introduction.

Each image consists of a rectangle w/white fill on top of which I place a paragraph text object that contains the content of the posted column. The rectangles are slightly wider and taller than the text objects, so I use the rectangle's size to determine the exported image's resolution size.

I've settled on an image that is 700 pixels wide - which works nicely on our webpages - and is of whatever height necessary for the content of the column. So in Draw all background rectangles are 700px wide, and then are of whatever height is needed for the column being posted. On our website host, I upload an column's image file, get its web server location from the HTML of that page, insert that location into an <IMG/> code on the column's web page, and finally add WIDTH="700" and HEIGHT="(whatever)" within that code - the (whatever) number coming from the dimensions of the rectangle in the CDX7 file.

Most of the columns are about the same length, meaning their boxes are similar sizes. An example of those boxes may be found here...

http://fccem.org/the-and-from-bill-archive/posts/archive-entry-9-may-9-1991

But occasionally the posted column is longer, which produces a box of the same width but greater height. The entry I am posting for today - August 8 - is such a column. As you will see at the following link, the resolution of the image is not nearly as sharp as the previous one....

http://fccem.org/the-and-from-bill-archive/posts/archive-entry-10-january-15-2009

I don't think I understand image resolution. If an image created in Draw at 700x1000px then exported as a .png file at that resolution is posted on the Web, also at that resolution, and looks good and sharp, then why wouldn't a Draw image created at 700x1300px (or any noticeably larger height), exported and posted at its original dimensions, appear with the same sharpness?

Thanks for making it through this post. Hope that made sense. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi All, oh please someone, know hat i mean, and help poor little old me! I installed X7 onto my pc to have a check at it, I still have and use everyday, X6 which I love love love! it is my bread and butter too... OK, so i uninstalled X7 yesterday and BOOM all my thumbnail icons are all scrambled up. XPS thinks its a 'green hot air balloon"... JPGs think they are 'green hot air balloons" too, and all the files that I have worked in or saved as new in the last 24 hours and just a green box thumbnail with the pen at an angle. I can't see what is 'inside' the file. I can still see old files with the little hot air balloon in the right hand bottom corner. its all very complicated. Please may I ask for the genius out there to help me... pretty please... THANK YOU!!! ;-)Angel

Windows thumbnail and preview colors

Hi!

Does anyone know what colorprofile CorelDraw X6 uses to create previews of its documents in windows 7?

We have two machines both running win7, CorelDraw X6 with the same colorprofile settings. But when saving the same document who has embedded profiles (one for RGB and one for CMYK) the preview looks different depending on which machine saved the document. This would usually not mather since the color inside the document i correct once you open it, but this time we sent the document with the wrong preview colors to a printer and they managed to get the preview color for the final print.

So does anyone know which colorprofile determines the preview color?

Here a sample. This is the same document saved "Original" from machine1 who shows wrong colors on the thumbnail and preview. And the same document saved from machine2 "SaveAs" who shows correct colors both on the thumbnail and preview...

Tracing bitmaps in X5 ... RUNTIME ERROR

Hi all, i am having trouble with tracing bitmaps to vector in X5.

The problem is still occurring.

In my instance I select trace bmp - outline trace - line art ...     i am presented with a choice to  "reduce bitmap" or "cancel".

If I cancel corel crashes and if I select reduce bitmap then it proceeds to corel autotrace window and performs an initial trace with a default setting.

I then increase detail to near max and it retraces. If it completes this retrace without crashing then i select ok to return to drawx5. It then crashes.

Hi have updated to .net 4.5.2 , CDGSX5 sp3 and applied hotfix 4.

I have also tried clearing the temp folder after reboot.

What next?

Color Monitor profile .icm crashes X4 sp2 where .icc does not

We have a EFI ES-1000  rev 4 spectrometer that creates color monitor profiles with the 2.xx revision software, no problem with these .icc profiles.

We also have a Xrite i1 Pro with v1.5.6 Version 2.3.5.2 received with a digital Xerox press , it create .icm profiles which appear to work on Corel X6, however these appear to cause a instant crash when attempting to install in Corel X4 sp2 . This then seems to cause all settings to return to Generic color profiles.

Incidentally - on Windows7 you can set color profiles for 2 monitors which may work good on X6 which uses the Windows color management. On X4 one being limited to 1 profile you better use your main monitor.

When I choose "new from template" the default directory is "All". How can I make it default to My Templates? I thought I had fixed this some time ago and was working for a while now it has reverted back to "All".

Auto Save causes wait time???

Brand new system.... 120 gig SSD, 16gb DDR3, 2tb 7200 rpm hard drive (storage)  and I am getting that spinning "be patient young man, time to wait till I save your work" icon that takes over the mouse and forces me to wait for the file to save.  Why?  Is it a setting? Is it just inherent in CorelDraw X6?   (I'm up to date on all SP's and hot fixes, as well as all updates for Win 764 are installed... system runs fast and stable and many other old Corel X6 issues I had simply went away... must have been my system. All except for Autosave issue.

This only happens during AutoSave.... I've set it at 5 min to hopefully lessen the volume of changes to be saved, I've redirected the save to folder onto the SSD, and then set the save loction onto the 2tb disk drive, with no noticeable difference.

If I click on "save" manually, then the mouse arrow stays active, no issues with waiting.

Is this simply how it is with X6?   I kinda remember when X5 came out, this issue didn't exist.  Then when x6 came out all of a sudden it started to do this waiting thing.  I thought it was my computer.

My only option is to disable autosave.... (really?)

I have several other Corel X6 users who experience the same thing.

Any suggestions to minimize or fix this issue?

x7 64-bit print engine not working (bitmaps truncated)

I've been using x7 for a week now and overall like many of the features. However, when it came time to print my first job from it, I ran into trouble. Then with my second job, I ran into even worse problems. I'm afraid the x7 print engine needs some attention (now 8 hours after starting to fight with it today.)

When I publish to pdf, all is fine and prints perfectly.

When I print using X7 64-bit to either my canon fiery rip, cute pdf writer, or adobe acrobat XI pro, the output has major glitches - bitmaps that are cut in half (half not printed), text that becomes "thickened" in places, drop shadows that have become much darker than the adjacent drop shadow which is the same in coreldraw, powerclipped bitmaps truncated (but simple bitmaps are truncated too.)

I back-saved the x7 file to x5 format, opened in x5, and everything printed fine.

(If someone at corel would like to look at a couple files which are not printing from x7, I would be happy to provide a dropbox link privately or by email.)

I remember having problems with the print engine in x5 I think when it first came out and it was all sorted in sp1, so I'm hoping that x7 will be sorted quickly too as I really like some of the new x7 features.

Object Manager Selection

If I click on an object in the object manager and then press then down arrow it selects the next object down, so far so good.

Now I want to recolour some of these objects. Let's say I have 2 curves in the object manager, I click on the 1st curve in the object manager and recolour it by clicking my desired colour from the colour palette. Then I would like to recolour the 2nd curve by clicking the down arrow. Currently when I do this it acts as if I still have the first curve selected and just nudges that downwards.

Can anyone tell me what preferences I need to alter so that when I am working in the object manager I can recolour a curve and then simply click the down arrow to move onto the next curve? This is the way I had x6 set up and i'm sure it was the default as I don't recall having to tell it to do this.

Thanks

Windows 8??

Hi~

i got a new computer about a year ago.  I haven't been using it because Corel is acting odd with Win 8.   The menus are moving in a jerky halting manner.  I thought I'd give it another try.  If I can't get it to work smoothly I'm going to throw it out the window:)

Here's what the computer looks like::

HP Envy 23xt TS PC
• Windows 8 64
• 3rd Generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3330S quad-core processor [2.7GHz, 6MB Shared Cache]
• 2GB AMD Radeon HD 7650A
• 8GB DDR3-1600MHz SODIMM Memory [1 DIMM]
• 2TB 7200 rpm SATA hard drive
• Microsoft Office Trial
• No additional Security Software
• Slim slot Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
• 6-in-1 card reader, 2 USB3.0, audio
• No TV Tuner
• Integrated Sound, Envy Audio; Beats Audio
HP USB keyboard and optical mouse with volume control
• No Game Console
• Premium Wireless-N LAN card and Bluetooth(R)(2x2)
• Adobe Photoshop Elements & Premiere Elements 11

I'd appreciate any feedback on this:)

Making A Layer Semi-Transparent

$

I've setup a CorelDraw X6 document by inserting a background image. I'm using this bitmap to trace over. You can D/L the file HERE.

I added a layer over the top of this image to trace on (the background image will be deleted once I'm done).

My question is, how do I make my drawing layer semi-transparent, almost pure white, with just enough of the bitmap showing beneath to reference it?

Issues with Corel X7 version 17.1.0.572

After using this updated software for nearly 3 months , the following issues seem to be occurring on a regular basis ;

1. Program freezes on saving of documents. This requires a new instance of CorelDraw to be opened which then displays the message "a backup has been found" This then opens up the frozen version of the documents less any changes.I can then continue working. Have to use Windows Task Manager to then end other frozen CorelDraw program.Happens on both 64 and 32 version.

2. When saving , "whole of the window" of program "moves from outside of screen until saved , then resumes full screen windows. Its as though the open window dislodges during the save process. Just looks very unstable.

Long time professional user of CorelDRAW. Used in movies, advertisements and broadcast.

Simultaneously Fill All Areas of a Complex Mask

$

In PhotoPaint X6 if you double-clicked on the Fill Tool it would open the Fill dialog and then on clicking OK, the current fill would automatically be applied to the current object or background layer. This was particularly useful if there was a complex mask over the image as the fill would be applied simultaneously to all of the unmasked areas.

In PhotoPaint X7 double-clicking the Fill tool opens the dialog, but clicking OK doesn't apply the fill to the object or background and using the Fill tool to put the fill into each masked area doesn't give the same effect.

I know that a graduated fill can be done using the Interactive Fill tool...

...but how can this be achieved using any type of fill.

The masks I'm really thinking of would be much more complex than in my examples above.

BUG? Sizing handles not always visible.

$

Since installing 7.1 the sizing handles are not alway visible.

Flipping between some jobs now and one job has selected items where the handles are visible, the other job has selections and the handles are not visible. It seems to be an intermittent issue. If you hover over where you expect the handles to be, the mouse pointer changes to the correct sizing arrows and the object can be resized.

Anyone else experience this?

VB Script Find Layer Name

$

Hi.

I am attempting to write a VB script that exports the drawing when certain layers are present within the drawing file. The layer names are "Make No Waves" and "Speed Value". How do I write a VB script that searches for multiple layers? I have attempted to use Layers.Find but this appears to search only one layer at a time. I have also tried Layer.Name but I am unable to get the syntax correct. I get "Object Required" error. I do not know what this error means. My attempt with Layer.Name is:

Set ActivePage = .Pages.First

     With ActivePage.Layers

          If Layer.Name("Make No Waves") Then

MsgBox "Make No Waves Layer is Present", vbOKOnly

          Else

MsgBox "Make No Waves Layer is Absent", vbOKOnly

          End If

Problems with inaccurate saves and pdf files

$

I have been using CorelDraw since 3 and have purchased every new version when it came out.  Never have I had a version I disliked as much as x7.

I have had so many problems opening, creating, and saving pdfs that I actually uninstalled all of Corel x7 and reinstalled without the update.  Why? because I hadn't updated at work and was having no issues.

Worse yet is that Corel is not saving attributes correctly for my shapes.  A file that looks like this:

ends up with a solid blue circle because the file does not save the correct color of the ellipses.

Also as others have said in another thread, I have frequent save issues - in fact just after completing every room for the campus safety maps corel gave an error that literally killed the working file and left me returning to a back-up file on a thumb drive - with two days worth of work lost.
