I just installed Corel Graphics Suite X6. Prior to purchase, I checked these forums and on the web to anticipate potential problems. I was surprised to see that Corel was still around (I’m actually not new since I’d used an educational copy at v11; I left because I was afraid Corel was going to go down the tubes at the time.) On the web, especially, I read many complaints regarding Corel products. I’m posting to register my satisfaction (vice a bunch of complaints.)
I purchased directly from Corel; I purchased via telephone because I had a couple questions regarding a rebate. I spent less than 5 minutes on hold and then spoke to a very friendly Corel representative who answered all my questions, even the stupid ones.
When installing any software, I expect problems; it’s the nature of the beast. I installed Corel on a year old Dell laptop with 6G useable memory (It should be 8G but 2G are presently out of action because I set up a virtual machine and haven’t figured out yet how to undo that.) I had absolutely no problem installing Corel; the disc had v6.1. I did the upgrade to v6.2 and the hotfix without any problem whatsoever, except maybe one confusing button click on whether I was a new user or not.
All components run; the only comment I would make is that CorelDraw takes a little longer to start up, but I figure it’s loading a lot more beef. I have no clue what I’m doing; the programs have so many features that I’m getting a little lost, maybe I can pester people here with some questions.
So anyway… to any other potential purchasers out there, I just wanted to present the viewpoint of a novice user. As a non-professional who is not using this software to make money, there is no way I would have afforded the competing product at three times the price.
